Last fall Geoff Last, our General Manager found himself in Portugal visiting wineries just outside of Lisbon. The region produces a significant amount of wine from what is known simply as the Lisboa D.O., wines that are typically consumed locally or exported to markets in the U.K. and Scandinavian counties. The wines from this region tend to be delicious as well as inexpensive with lots of personality, which is exactly what Geoff found in the wines from Ponto Assente.
These wines – both a white and red - are field blends from local grapes that include Castelao the red grape, and Arinto is the white grape. The red is a spicy, full-bodied wine with abundant red fruits, while the white is a medium-bodied wine with a creamy texture, bright acidity and a backbone of stone fruits. This is not your typical boxed wine as the beauty of the bag-in-box format is that they will last for weeks once open.
Both wines are available in 3 litre bag-in-box format ideal for parties, pool-side, camping, boating, $45 and $14.95 for 750ml bottles. Bargains don’t get much better than these.
