The turkey is ready for carving and corks are ready for popping! Indulge in a great Thanksgiving feast this year with a wine list that will add the perfect touch to your Thanksgiving dinner...
With so many different flavours on the menu – and some you only make once a year – selecting a wine may be easier with a little advice. If the taste of your wine is way more important than knowing wine names (which we completely understand) check out our list of four wines perfect for giving Thanks.
Martinelli 2015 Vigneto di Evo - $50.48
Martinelli is a California cult favourite, beloved by wine lovers and the wine media alike. They produce a range of wines from their myriad of exceptional sites in Sonoma, but it is their Zinfandel bottlings that tend to get people really excited. This not-so-subtle wine boasts lots of alcohol and lots of everything else to balance things out. The wine shows notes of wild berries with a spice box mix that includes cinnamon, black pepper and cedar. Try it with baked ham or a crown roast of pork this Thanksgiving.
The Ojai Vineyard Santa Barbara County Syrah 2015- $42.86
Ojai is a pioneer when it comes to Syrah and Pinot Noir as they were among the first to really start producing high-quality wines in the Santa Barbara region of California. This Syrah is a blend from the numerous sites the winery employs for their single vineyard wines. It ripe and voluptuous with lots of black plum and cassis fruit with soft ripe tannins and bright acidity, a natural with baked ham or duck.
Merlin Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2015 - $35.23
If red wine with turkey is your preference, then the Merlin Pinot is a great option. The 2015 vintage was exceptional in Burgundy – hail and frost aside – as is evident in this great value wine. It delivers loads of bright red/black fruits with silky tannins and a touch of classic Pinot spice.
Wittmann Niersteiner Riesling Trocken 2015 - $40.00
Riesling tastes like fall in a bottle, perhaps because it typically displays an apple component among its many charms. Wittmann has risen to the top ranks of the German wine world over the last decade producing exceptional, long-lived wines that are brilliant with food. This fully dry example offers stone fruits, citrus rind and melon with zippy acidity. It would be perfect with turkey, goose, roast pork and salmon.
